Welcome to Chard Road Runners Club website. We are a friendly, small running club based in Chard, Somerset, England.  Affiliated in 1981 we have a mixed membership of about 50 members, plus a number of club supporters, and we currently cater for ages 16 and above and those able to run 5 miles.

While we are called Chard Road Runners we do in fact run on all terrains and over all distances.

Main Club night is Tuesdays at
19:00 at Chard Cricket Club. Typically we will run for between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes. Generally splitting into two groups to accommodate different paces. Winter runs are limited to within town and nearby lanes, and reflective clothing and a light are needed. For the rest of the year we will combine road and off road routes. The cricket club has showers and a bar, and most runners will stay on for a drink at the club after the run.  Wednesday night sees a smaller group of runners meet at the same time, same place, the bar and showers are not open. Please check on our Facebook page before joining on a Wednesday, as occasionally no one is available to run.

Runs at the weekend are generally arranged via Facebook.   If you intend to make this your first outing with the club we suggest you contact one of the club members in advance to confirm distance and pace.

For newcomers it is helpful if you contact one of the organisers in advance so they can get an understanding of your fitness and experience, what you are looking for, and to give a bit more detail on the session. Please contact Addie Douglas on 01460 61381

Membership is £15 per annum. Anyone is welcome to run with the club, and if you wish to then run regularly or just support the club, you are welcome to join. For an additional £14 you join UK Athletics which entitles you to enter any UK Athletics run events at the concession rate granted to club members (typically £2 less per event). The club is a member of England Athletics (formally UK Athletics) and is also a member of  The Association of Road Runners.

The club run regular social events, and actively encourage members to take part in races and running events, both locally, nationally, and abroad, as part of the club. About 12 of the members race regularly, and there are others doing marathons.  We also have Tri-athletes within our ranks. The club tries to enter team events where possible.

The range of membership is wide and includes experienced runners able to advise on training and provide assistance and support.

Visitors to the area are most welcome to run with us. The best approach is to come on a Tuesday evening to the Cricket club for about 18:45. Do not worry if you are not sure whether you will be able to keep pace with the group or run for duration - we always make sure no runners are left on their own or made to feel under any pressure. In winter it is advisable to bring some form of light. The club have some reflective vests.

The club is entitled to one entry for the London Marathon, and this is awarded by ballot to existing members who applied but failed to gain a place who have been members for one year.

Directions to Chard Cricket Club. There are two ways of getting there. Simplest route is to turn off Fore Street in Chard (main road through town) at Wetherspoons into Essex Close. As road bears left turn right and park alongside Rugby pitch at the north end. Go through gap at side of large metal gate onto footpath. Go through another smaller metal gate onto cricket pitch. Clubhouse is 50 yards on lefthand side. Entrance to the rear. If metal gate to cricket pitch is locked do not try and enter via this route. Use next alternative:

Alternate route from Chard High Street (top end of Fore Street) is right in to Helliers road near top of town. Then 1st sharp right Combe Street, 1st left Zembard Lane. About 200 yards on right turn in to narrow entrance to Chard Town Football club. Lane is bumpy. Drive past football pitch clubhouse, bear left and right with tennis courts on right. Parking at end of road by Cricket Club house.

Schools Out is the first building on the right on Millfield, parking adjacent just a bit further along the Millfield. Millfield is by mini roundabout on A358 toward Axminster.
